Scientists Predict Moon in Mars Will Destroyed
The month of Mars, Phobos, is expected to disintegrate slowly. NASA scientists are observing Phobos find a groove that shows a structural failure in the month.
Compared to other months in the Solar System, just Phobos which is close to its parent planet, Mars. At a distance of 6,000 kilometers, Phobos fairly close to Mars than any other month.
According to the observations of scientists, Phobos is getting closer to Mars with an average of 2 meters every 100 years. Although the distance is getting closer, the moon is said to remain safe for 30 to 50 million years into the future.
Reported Gizmag, Wednesday (11/11/2015), oval-shaped Phobos, the largest moon of Mars belong. On the month, scientists are now observing grooves on its surface. The groove is estimated to have a depth of approximately 30 meters with a width of 100 to 200 meters and a length of approximately 20 kilometers.
Scientists suspect the groove is a sign of cracks formed from asteroid impacts in a long time. However, the latest 3D modeling by NASA researchers showed that the groove was more like 'stretch marks', which arises from the effect of attraction between Mars and Phobos.
While on Earth, the gravitational pull between the Earth and the moon made both objects become slightly oval. In addition, the attractive force makes the Earth produces tidal effects on the oceans.
